City Business Guides

The Venice of the North, Stockholm is built on 14 islands among open bays and narrow channels. Sweden's capital is handsome and civilized, filled with parks and airy boulevards. It is the financial and business hub of Sweden, with most major Swedish companies including Ericsson, Electrolux, Ikea, Saab and Volvo all based in the capital. Much of Stockholm's present day wealth comes from the new light industries such as information technology and telecommunications, and also from design-based industries. Although Sweden did not adopt the Euro, the city's major trading partners are all European. The country is heavily dependent on exports and the rapid downturn in the IT and telecom sectors affected the economy. Remarkably, Stockholm is the city where Nobel Prizes are awarded.
